This project is a material experimentation with the album ‘Moodswings in Disorder’ as the reference. In the original content, the artist talks about his struggles with bipolar disorder and how it affects his creation process. To represent this, as well as many other emotions existing in the album, I created a mood board and sketches (pictured below) while keeping the desire to experiment with new techniques and visuals. It resulted on an ‘art object’ that would be similar to a special edition rather than an en-masse produced good.

I created two different album prototypes, both completely hand-made and bound by me. The first one, on the top left of the page, resembles the texture of skin and alludes to flesh. The second one, on the bottom of the page, took a much more complex process and materials: using Korean hanji paper and through the joomchi method, which consists on wetting, folding, and beating the paper (which acquires a textile-like consistency) until the lace tears appear. This process is lengthy and physically exhausting, taking more than a few full days to complete, and connects the ‘making’ with the result.
